It Inhibits the conversion of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase to mevalonic acid by blocking the enzyme HMG- CoA reductase and decrease the concentration of total cholesterol and low density lipoproteins. It is used in the treatment of Primary hypercholesterolaemia, Hyperlipidaemia of diabetes mellitus, Secondary prophylaxis after MI.
